Deep plane facelift: what to know before you chase the look

Kris Jenner’s fresh-faced look has got people talking again. Searches for “deep plane facelift” jumped by 213% on 20 May compared with the average of the previous 90 days, after the Kardashian matriarch appeared in Paris and posted on Instagram. Beauty experts say the interest is understandable, but admiration should not turn into aspiration at any cost.

Why everyone is searching

Jenner is 69, and after she shared a carousel of pictures on 17 April, searches for her age began to climb. Data analysed by the beauty and wellness booking app Fresha shows that Google searches for “Kris Jenner age” rose 590% worldwide the following day.

UK plastic surgeon Dr Jonny Betteridge looked at her photos in an Instagram post on 17 May and suggested that a deep plane facelift, among other procedures, was the likely explanation for the change. That has not been confirmed by Jenner herself, so treat it as speculation.

What a deep plane facelift involves

A deep plane facelift is a major operation. Unlike a traditional facelift, it lifts the deeper tissues and muscles of the face, which makes it one of the more extensive facial rejuvenation procedures around. The experts at Fresha urge anyone tempted by the look to take a few precautions first.

Choose a qualified specialist

It sounds obvious, yet some people skip this step to save money or time. Because the procedure is so involved, it should only be carried out by a board-certified facial plastic surgeon. Mistakes in such a delicate area can lead to uneven results, nerve damage or an outcome you simply do not like.

Do not let price make the decision

Cosmetic surgery is expensive, and the price partly reflects the standard of care. A procedure like this typically costs between $18,000 and $40,000, depending on the surgeon and where you are. Cheaper offers from less experienced providers may look tempting, but it is not a risk worth taking.

Some people also look into face mapping, which analyses your individual facial structure so a surgeon can plan a more precise, tailored approach and keep your features balanced.

Remember that celebrity transformations are often presented at their very best. Social media rarely shows the planning, the waiting or the quieter weeks that came before the big reveal, so it pays to be sceptical about anything that looks too quick.

Give recovery and your feelings room

Even the best facelift can take weeks or months to settle fully. Swelling, bruising and tightness are all part of healing, so what you see on social media is probably a carefully timed reveal rather than an overnight miracle. Plan for downtime.

There is an emotional side too. Surgery is usually meant to boost confidence, but it can bring stress if your expectations do not match reality, and the face in the mirror may feel unfamiliar at first. The experts recommend a psychological assessment before any major facial surgery.

A gentler route

If you want to dip a toe in, injectables and fillers are less invasive and cheaper, and they can work as a trial run to see whether cosmetic treatments suit you:

  • Botox-style injectables temporarily relax muscles to soften lines caused by facial movement.
  • Fillers add volume where skin has lost elasticity, smoothing lines and creases and shaping contours.

Whatever you decide, the best results tend to come from patients who research thoroughly, consult several professionals and keep their goals realistic, rather than rushing in under pressure.
