Glamour’s global June cover is called “Love Rules”, and its stars are Nicola and Brooklyn Peltz Beckham. Rather than the red-carpet glitz you might expect, the couple chose to talk about the quieter moments that rarely end up on social media. Here is what stood out from their chat.
Nicola is an actor and director, Brooklyn is a photographer and entrepreneur, and they met up at The Polo Bar in Los Angeles, one of their happy places, to talk to Theresa Pichler of Glamour Germany. Dogs, family and their beloved sofa all came up, along with how they kept calm on their wedding day.
How the Peltz Beckham love story began
It all started with a glimpse at Coachella in 2017. Brooklyn says he was drawn to Nicola straight away, partly because she was beautiful, but mostly because of her warmth and energy. It was a fleeting moment, yet he never forgot it.
Nicola remembers it the same way. It was brief, she says, but she felt something. Both of them were with other people at the time, but there was an instant spark, and Brooklyn snapped a few photos of her that stayed in her memory for years.
What love means to them
Nicola describes love as a calm feeling that settles through your whole body, a sense of safety she had never experienced before. Brooklyn’s view is simple: marry your best friend, the person who feels like home. For him, that is Nicola. He also says he knew within three months that he wanted to marry her.
A proposal full of surprises
Nicola had no idea it was coming, and jokes that she would have dressed differently if she had. Brooklyn organised everything in secret, and her family turned up in golf carts once he had asked the question. She cried so much that her face swelled up, which meant no decent photos, and she only studied the ring properly later on.
Brooklyn had a rougher day. A golf cart accident a few hours earlier had left him with stitches in his hand and a bandaged thumb, so he could not even open the wine.
Wedding advice worth borrowing
If you are planning a wedding, the pair have a few tips:
- Steal a moment alone on the day. Step away, breathe and just be together. Nicola says those were her favourite parts, because weddings can be intense when you are busy making sure everyone else is having fun.
- Slip away after the ceremony. They went for a short drive, just the two of them, and thought it was perfect.
- Be honest, love each other and look after one another. Brooklyn even had their vows tattooed on his body.
Sharing a surname and keeping life private
The couple combined their surnames. Brooklyn thought it was sweet, especially with future children in mind and the idea of a gang of little Peltz Beckhams running about. Nicola says it mattered a lot to her as a woman, and suggests that blending names is a good solution if you do not want to give yours up.
On the pressure of being a famous couple, Nicola points out that online followers see the parties and festival moments, while the truth is that they are happiest curled up at home in comfy clothes with their dogs, a film or dinner. Brooklyn’s approach to privacy is to ignore the noise, work hard, stay kind and accept that people will always talk. At home with the dogs and no cameras, even a bit of Love Island is on the cards.
It is a refreshing reminder that even in the spotlight, a good Peltz Beckham love story comes down to friendship and a comfy sofa. You can read the full conversation on Glamour.
