A magazine cover interview can reveal a surprising amount, and Madelyn Cline was refreshingly open in hers. The 27-year-old from Charleston, South Carolina, says it is time to “grow up again” as she heads into the fifth and final season of the teen streaming hit Outer Banks.
A busy road ahead for Madelyn Cline
She has plenty to be getting on with. Madelyn stars in two films, The Map That Leads to You, a romance adapted from a novel of the same name, and a new instalment in the I Know What You Did Last Summer slasher franchise. More projects are on the way. She expects to spend an estimated 300 days of the year away from home, whether on the road or working in far-flung places.
Impostor syndrome and body image
Madelyn is honest about the wobbles that come with the job. She admits to bouts of anxiety and says she does have impostor syndrome. In her eyes, that is simply human, but she also reminds herself that she has got this far and can do it. She tries not to overthink it, because that tends to send her into a spiral, and she believes the only thing that really eases the friction is time.
Body image, she says, is something she keeps coming back to. People love to focus on weight, which she finds very strange. Over the seasons of Outer Banks, her appearance has changed because of ordinary life: stress, breakups, and healthy or less healthy habits around food. Yet she feels the camera picks up everything, which leaves her wondering whether she can ever be on her period or have a beer the night before without it showing.
She also has a pointed word about the online reaction. In the comment sections, she says, fans are not always the family they like to claim to be.
Staying single on her own terms
Madelyn is single and not in a hurry to settle down. She wants to experience this stage of life on her own terms before she gets into serious relationship territory.
Asked about her past relationship with Pete Davidson, she kept things light. The jokes, she says, write themselves, and she has already given her one comment on the subject. She did add that he has a lovely dog and some great girlfriends now.
Sleep strikes and a home of her own
Her schedule leaves little room for rest. Most days she goes from home to set and back again. She craves some time alone to stay up late, but she enjoys it so much that she ends up not sleeping at all, what she calls her sleep strikes.
There is a light at the end of the tunnel. Her next break starts in January 2026, when she plans to head back to Los Angeles and carry on building her nest. Top of the list is finishing her garage and turning it into a screening room. She says she has a whole plan.
What to take from it
For fans, the interview is a reminder that the polished version of a star hides a lot of ordinary human worry. Her comments on weight, cameras and comment sections will ring true for anyone who has felt judged online.
It is a down-to-earth picture of a young actress balancing a fast-moving career with the same worries many of us have: self-doubt, sleep and what comes next. With a final Outer Banks season ahead, a packed film schedule and a future screening room to look forward to, Madelyn seems ready for the next chapter.
