Retro Drinks Trolley: Create a Cocktail Lounge Look at Home
How to bring the glamour of a 70s cocktail lounge into your living room with a retro drinks trolley.

Understated glamour is heading back into our homes this autumn, and nothing says it better than a retro drinks trolley. From mid-century influences to the revival of the martini trolley, the cocktail lounge look is rich, ambient and made for entertaining.
What is the cocktail lounge aesthetic?
Think of a 70s hotel bar brought into your living room: warm metals, natural materials and low lighting. Interior designers describe it as glamorous but relaxed, with a touch of nostalgia that suits cosy nights in. It also fits the wider Neo Deco trend, which Pinterest’s 2026 predictions flagged as bold and glam.
Choose the right trolley
Brass, gold and smoked glass give the classic look, while dark wood adds warmth. Pick a trolley with two shelves so you can separate bottles from glassware, and make sure the wheels glide smoothly on your flooring.
How to style it
- Group bottles by height, with the tallest at the back.
- Add a small tray to corral shakers, stirrers and a bottle opener.
- Include a bowl of lemons or olives for colour.
- Use proper glassware: coupes, tumblers and highballs.
- Finish with a lamp or candle nearby to create a warm glow.
Set the mood around it
Dim the overhead light, add a lamp with a warm bulb, and layer in velvet cushions or a rug in rich tones such as bottle green, burgundy or burnt orange. A framed print or a mirror above the trolley adds depth.
Not just for alcohol
A trolley is just as good as a tea and coffee station, or a mocktail bar for guests who are not drinking. Stock it with sparkling water, good tonics and fresh herbs and everyone feels looked after.
Start with the trolley, add a few favourite bottles, and your living room is ready for the party season.
