Packing Light: How to Travel for a Week With Just a Cabin Bag
Leave the heavy suitcase at home and discover how freeing it feels to travel with only what you truly need.

Travelling with just a cabin bag can feel like a challenge at first, but once you’ve tried it, you may never want to wheel a giant suitcase again. Packing light means no waiting at the baggage carousel, no lugging heavy cases up station steps and far less time deciding what to wear each morning.
Build a Capsule Wardrobe
The secret is choosing clothes that all work together. Pick a simple colour palette, such as navy, grey and white, or black and camel, and make sure every top goes with every bottom. A week away can easily be covered by:
- Two pairs of trousers or a skirt and a pair of jeans
- Four or five tops that can be layered
- One warm jumper or cardigan
- One lightweight waterproof jacket
- Two pairs of comfortable shoes, wearing the bulkier pair while travelling
Pack Smarter, Not Harder
Rolling clothes rather than folding them saves space and helps reduce creases. Packing cubes keep everything organised and make it easy to find what you need without unpacking the whole bag. Use the inside of your shoes for socks or chargers, and choose fabrics that dry quickly so you can wash a few items in the sink if needed.
When it comes to toiletries, decant favourites into small travel bottles and check the latest airport liquid rules before you go. Solid shampoo bars and soap are handy alternatives that take up very little room.
Leave the Just in Case Items
Most of us overpack because we worry about what might happen. In reality, you can buy almost anything you forget once you arrive. Lay everything out before you pack, then remove a few items you’re unsure about.
Travelling light gives you more freedom to move, explore and enjoy the trip itself. Try it on your next getaway and see how much easier everything feels.
